What is your favorite part of the fall season? Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs host a wide variety of fall activities that cater to the tastes of all, whether you’re a fan of the spookiness of Halloween or enjoy the crisp colors and flavors the fall season brings.

Here are five family-friendly fall activities around Philadelphia to consider enjoying in the coming weeks. As a bonus, none should stretch your wallet too far and each is meant for all to enjoy the fall foliage and family fun.

 

1. FallFest at Shady Brook Farm

Wednesdays - Sundays in October, until October 30th, 2024

Location: Shady Brook Farm (931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley, PA 19067)

Price: Tickets starting at $15.

Pumpkin patches should come to mind when you think about the fall. If you’re seeking a pumpkin patch in Philadelphia, you’ll get that and more when you attend FallFest at Shady Brook Farm! On select dates until October 30th, families can enjoy hayrides, see farm animals, and pick your own apples, sunflowers, and pumpkins. This harvest festival switches gears once the sun goes down, offering an Eerie Illuminations Halloween Light Show Wagon Ride for evening attendees.

2. Scarecrows in the Village at Peddler's Village

Monday, September 9th - Sunday, October 27th

Location: Peddler's Village (2400 Street Road, New Hope, PA 18938)

Price: Free

You’ll have tons of fun strolling the grounds of Peddler’s Village and seeing all the beautifully designed scarecrows. This event, which runs until Sunday, October 27th, is free and open to the public. There are more than 100 scarecrows to see, which range from familiar faces to wholly original pieces.

Peddler’s Village is located in Lahaska, Bucks County.


3. Pumpkinland at Linvilla Orchards

Saturday, September 7th - Sunday, November 3rd

Location: Linvilla Orchards (137 W. Knowlton Road, Media, PA 19063)

Price: Tickets starting at $7. Tickets are required for children aged 1 and older.

If pumpkins are more of your speed for the fall months, you’ll have to stop by Pumpkinland at Linvilla Orchards. Pumpkinland offers one of Philadelphia and the surrounding area’s best pumpkin patches and features plenty of ticketed activities that are sure to delight the entire family, from hayrides and corn mazes to pony and train rides. There is also a moonlit hayride in the evening for those who are seeking to be spooked.

Linvilla Orchards is located in Media, Delaware County.

 

4. Boo at the Zoo at the Philadelphia Zoo

Saturdays and Sundays in October, starting on Saturday, October 12th and ending on Sunday, October 27th

Location: Philadelphia Zoo (3400 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104)

Price: Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children. Children aged 2 and younger are free. Advance online registrations are required for non-members of the Philadelphia Zoo.

Have your little ones show off their fantastic costumes by attending the Philadelphia Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo! For three select weekends starting on Saturday, October 12, you and your children can enjoy trick-or-treating and other fun activities throughout the zoo. Be sure to keep an eye on each animal exhibit, as they will also be in the Halloween spirit by playing with Halloween-themed toys or eating pumpkins.

5. Indigenous Peoples Weekend at the Museum of the American Revolution

Saturday, October 12th - Monday, October 14th

Location: Museum of the American Revolution

Price: Tickets are $25. American Heritage members can save when purchasing tickets at an eligible American Heritage branch. Tickets for American Heritage members are $10.

If history is of more interest to you, be sure to stop by the Museum of the American Revolution for Indigenous Peoples Weekend on October 12th – 14th. This annual celebration highlights the culture and continued impact of indigenous peoples’ history through traditional dances, ceremonies, and crafting sessions for children. Indigenous Peoples Day itself takes place on Monday, October 14th.

Tickets are required, so be sure to take advantage of your American Heritage member discount! You may purchase tickets at select branches for only $10. Eligible branches to purchase tickets are listed here.

The Museum of the American Revolution is located in Center City, Philadelphia.

As an American Heritage member, there are also lots of discounted tickets and activities you can take advantage of. There are discounted tickets available for select select Philadelphia Flyers and Philadelphia 76ers games, with dates spanning each respective teams’ season. You also may purchase discounted tickets for shows at Arden Theatre, which recently announced its fall productions. Arden Theatre has five Main Stage Shows and two Children’s Theatres, so there is something for everyone!

Of course, these are only some fall activities around Philadelphia and its suburbs. There are plenty of other options for you and your family to explore.
