We were originally founded as Budd Workers Federal Credit Union (Budd Workers) in January 14, 1948, with our headquarters in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The credit union served the line workers and management of the Budd Manufacturing Company. Through the years, mergers, and Select Employer Group (SEG) expansions, we changed our single SEG charter to serving SEG’s in numerous fields such as manufacturing, healthcare, government, and education. To better represent the members served, the Credit Union changed its name in 1987 to American Heritage Federal Credit Union, having expanded its field of membership outside the Budd Company through merger opportunities and significant SEG expansion. In 2001, American Heritage was granted the ability to serve anyone who lives, works, or worships in the county of Philadelphia as well as nearby counties. In 2016, we made a small change to our public name by dropping federal and simply known as “American Heritage Credit Union”. While we are still a federally chartered credit union and the full name remains our legal entity.
