American Heritage Credit Union has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to 30 high school senior credit union members. The credit union scholarship is designed to help ease the financial burden of higher education expenses.  American Heritage Credit Union’s Scholarship Committee selected the 2021 scholarship recipients based on their scholarly merits, community and school involvement, a letter of recommendation, and a submitted essay describing an experience that demonstrates their character or helped to shape it.

The scholarship program’s traditional banquet has historically been held in American Heritage’s Cecilia Grady Community Room, however due to safety precautions taken regarding the pandemic, the recipients were celebrated in a video posted to American Heritage’s social media channels. The compilation shows all 30 recipients and their college or post-graduation institution. The video can be found on American Heritage’s YouTube channel at ahcu.co/2021Scholarship.

“The cost of a higher education continues to rise and the need for additional aid and financial support is almost a necessity to cover costs,” states Bruce K. Foulke, American Heritage’s President & CEO. “Our scholarship program helps assist our future community leaders with educational costs and to help support their career aspirations. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I congratulate this year’s recipients of the Cecilia B. Grady Scholarship and wish them much success as they embark on this challenging yet exciting time!”

The Cecilia B. Grady Scholarship is named for American Heritage’s longtime Board of Directors Chair, Cecilia Grady.  American Heritage was one of the first financial institutions in the United States to elect a woman to serve as Board Chair. Under Ms. Grady’s leadership, American Heritage remained focused on the core mission of credit unions, which is “people helping people”, and the annual scholarship program honors her dedication to financial literacy, education, and community outreach.
